The classic advice says spend no more than a third of your income on housing. Doha’s market makes that rule very workable · if you pick the right district. Here is what different salary levels can comfortably rent in 2026, using asking rents from our live listings.

The 30% rule in Qatar terms

Qatar salaries are tax-free and many packages include a housing allowance · if yours does, treat the allowance as your ceiling instead. Utilities matter too: a bills-included flat at QAR 4,200 can beat a QAR 3,800 flat plus a QAR 700 summer Kahramaa bill. Our bills-included vs Kahramaa guide runs the numbers.

Earning around QAR 8,000/month

Budget QAR 2,400–2,800 for rent. That is a realistic 1-bedroom in Al Najma (from QAR 2,500, own metro station) or a studio in several central districts. Bills-included options at this level are common and worth prioritising.

Earning around QAR 12,000–15,000/month

Budget QAR 3,600–5,000. This opens up 2-bedroom family flats in Al Mansoura, Umm Ghuwailina and Old Airport Road, or a modern 1-bedroom with facilities in Fox Hills, Lusail (from QAR 4,500 with gym, pool and parking).

Earning around QAR 20,000–25,000/month

Budget QAR 6,000–8,000. Choices: a 3-bedroom family apartment in the central districts, a 2-bedroom in Fox Hills or Al Duhail, or tower living with sea views · 1-bedrooms in Lusail Marina District and West Bay start around QAR 5,500, often inclusive of utilities.

Earning QAR 30,000+/month

At QAR 9,000+ the premium market opens: 2-bedrooms in The Pearl with marina views, compound villas in Al Waab and Abu Hamour, and penthouse options. At this level it is also worth comparing renting against buying · ownership from roughly QAR 730,000 qualifies for Qatar residency, explained in our foreign buyer’s guide.

Three rules that save Doha renters money

  • Compare the true monthly cost · rent plus average utilities plus commute fuel, not the headline rent.
  • Landlords price for 12 cheques; offering fewer, larger cheques sometimes earns a discount. We negotiate this for you.
  • Move-in months matter: summer (June–August) sees the most stock and the most negotiable landlords.
